Marine Physical Laboratory

William S. Hodgkiss received a PhD degree in Electrical Engineering from Duke University in 1975. Since 1978, he has been a member of the faculty of the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, University of California, San Diego, and on the staff of the Marine Physical Laboratory.

He also is an adjunct faculty member of the Department of Electrical Engineering in the Jacobs School of Engineering. During the period 1998-2002, he served as Deputy Director – Scientific Affairs at Scripps and Associate Vice Chancellor – Marine Sciences.

His present research interests are in the areas of signal processing, communications, wireless sensor networks, propagation modeling, ambient noise, and environmental inversions, with applications of these to underwater acoustics and electromagnetic wave propagation.

Dr. Hodgkiss is a Fellow of the Acoustical Society of America.
